Filmed over a two-year period, Art Ó Briain’s documentary is an insightful and intimate portrait of Martin Hayes, one of Ireland’s greatest fiddle players who is playing a pivotal role in the development of traditional music in the twenty-first century. Natural Grace is a musical journey travelling with Martin Hayes to his home in East Clare, to the USA and Japan, where we see and hear him in both informal and concert settings. The film reveals both a fascinating character and a champion of the old and the new in Irish music, blending striking images of the Irish landscape as a backdrop for his exquisite playing. Natural Grace was voted best Irish Feature Documentary at the Galway Film Fleadh 2012.
