ABOUT US
Commitment to Film Culture in the Blackstairs Mountains
Running since September 2007, The Blackstairs Film Society was formed to provide art house and foreign language film to the local community in and around Borris and the Blackstairs Mountains. We are not for profit and committed to bringing a diverse and culturally significant range of films from all over the world to our local community, as can be seen by our screening list to date. We are located in Rathanna Hall and occasionally Borris House, the venue for the Festival of Writing and Ideas.
Committee
The Blackstairs Film Society has a dedicated voluntary committee including people with expertise in film, film scholarship and education, visual art, curatorial practise, audience development, critical writing and event management. Currently our committee members are as follows: Jules Michael, (Chair), Rachel Joynt (Secretary), Orla Ryan (Treasurer), Brian Hand (Website) and Sophie Byrne.
